NEPAL ADVENTURE
Nepal is a land of soaring peaks, rushing rivers, impenetrable forests, semi-arid plains, and hill country. It is also a developing country struggling to find its place in the modern world. In April 2015, the Gorkha earthquake struck Nepal, killing thousands and leaving many more\rhomeless.
ITINERARY
DAY 1 | Arrival to Kathmandu
All guests will be greeted at the airport by our Nepalese THISWORLDEXISTS contact.
Our in country expert will have arranged airport transfers to our hotel for all guests.
DAY 2 | Acclimatization day in Kathmandu
The group will stay overnight at the hotel and return to the city the following day for local sightseeing, preparation for the trek and an optional flight to Mount Everest.
DAY 3 | Bus/Jeep ride from Kathmandu to Syabrubesi
Depending on road conditions and transport, this trip can take anywhere from 4-12 hours. After breakfast we head north-west along the hills outside of Kathmandu. Take in the Himalayan views and mountainous terrain to gain an insight into the Nepali lifestyle as we drive through terraced rice fields and rustic villages.
DAY 4 | Syabrubesi to Lama Hotel
The first day of trekking follows the Langtang Khola River, passing through dense forests and crossing numerous suspension bridges. There is the option to stop and visit tea houses for afternoon tea. The trail goes up and down but it isn’t a challenging day of hiking (the perfect warm up).
DAY 5 | Lama Hotel to Thyangshyapu
After breakfast, we embark on our second day of the journey. Our trail continues through dense forests. After making a steady climb up through the valley, the tree line is finally below us and we are greeted with marvellous views of Langtang Lirung (7227m). Today’s trekking passes by water mills, prayer wheels and chortens, which are sacred mounds of rocks with inscriptions carved on them.
DAY 6 | Thyangshyapu to Kyanjin Gompa
Views include glaciers, icefalls, birds and yaks, as well as spectacular panoramic views of Langtang Himalaya range. There is an option to do a side trip in the afternoon for a spectacular sunset view of Kyanjin gompa.
DAY 7 | Visit to Tserko Ri
Tserko Ri (5000m/16404ft) is a 4-5 hour walk from Kyanjin gompa to Lama Hotel. The trail returns down the hill through the thick forest that shrouds the river. The return hike passes ethnic Tamang settlements who follow religious and cultural practices similar to Tibetans.
DAY 8 | Trek to Syabrubesi
After breakfast we will make our way back to Syabrubesi and rest up for our education project. Stay Overnight at Syabrubesi.
DAY 9 | Drive from Syabrubesi to our education project in Tanahun
In the morning, we will be taken by bus to a village on the highway between Kathmandu and Pokhara. The trip will take around 4-10 hours by bus. Sleeping arrangements will be in tents or homestays during our stay in the Tanahun community.
DAY 10 - 13 | Education project in Tanahun
Guests will be given a range of tasks to assist the local tradespeople in building the school project in Kathmandu, Nepal. Options will be provided for alternate activities to enrich our time in the project and gain a deeper understanding of rural Nepal life.
DAY 14 | Thank you ceremony in the Tanahun community
Free time in Kathmandu in the evening. Dinner provided at hotel or nearby restaurant. Overnight stay in Kathmandu.
DAY 15 | Sightseeing in Kathmandu and departure
After breakfast, there will be a post-trip discussion and feedback forms completed. A guided tour of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu is an option for all guests (entry fees not included). Some of landmarks we visit include the World Heritage Sites of Kathmandu, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist stupa of Boudhanath. All guests will be driven to the airport prior to their departing flights.
